Support for the Doula program is needed in the Labor and Delivery department at St. Anthony North Hospital. Necessary funding includes staff training, equipment and general operating expenses. Approximately 40% of our patients are Spanish speaking only and have household incomes below the national poverty level. The Doula program provides a cost savings to the community by providing a certified professional to tend to the needs of the mother during child birth, interpretting her needs to health care providers, translating necessary procedures and servicing the needs of the patient during the entire labor and delivery process. Patients in the Doula program are usually first evaluated at 26 weeks and monitored throughout the duration of their pregnancy.
